IC / Practitioner

Independently audited

Keeps the numbers correct, the controls intact, and the plan honest. Owns a defined area of the function and the outcomes it produces.

Audited package

Built, independently audited role package. Everything on this page is written for this seat.

Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • GRC & Compliance
  • Analytics & BI
  • Workflow and records systems

Deliverables

  • Close schedules and reconciliations
  • Reporting packs
  • Forecast and budget models
  • Variance analysis

Responsibilities

  • Perform risk assessment and define engagement objectives, process scope, key risks, controls, systems, populations, stakeholders, and timing within the approved audit plan.
  • Conduct walkthroughs, document process and control design, identify evidence, and determine whether the control is capable of mitigating the stated risk.
  • Design and execute tests of operating effectiveness using validated populations, defensible sampling, inspection, observation, inquiry, confirmation, and reperformance as appropriate.
  • Analyze transactions, exceptions, trends, root causes, compensating controls, and whether a deviation is isolated or systemic.
  • Write re-performable workpapers that show objective, population, validation, sample, attributes, evidence, exceptions, conclusion, preparer, and review.
  • Draft findings that connect condition, criteria, cause, effect or risk, owner, recommendation, and agreed action without becoming the control designer.
  • Communicate status and emerging issues early to Internal Audit leadership and process owners without surprising governance at final report.
  • Track remediation and perform independent follow-up or retest to determine whether the agreed action is complete and effective.

The essence of this seat

The Auditor is the independent in-house assurance individual contributor who plans and executes risk-based audits of financial, operational, compliance, and governance processes; tests control design and operating effectiveness; evaluates exceptions and root causes; writes re-performable workpapers and findings; and follows remediation without designing or operating the control.

Signature move

Start from the risk and objective, then identify the process, assertions or outcomes, controls, systems, population, and evidence that could support a conclusion

What good looks like

re-derives this engagement's scope from current risk rather than the copied control list, ties every inclusion and exclusion to a named risk, and routes a material scope change instead of deciding it

  • - walkthrough, test design, evidence request, sampling, reperformance, and workpaper quality

What this role does

The Auditor is the independent in-house assurance individual contributor who plans and executes risk-based audits of financial, operational, compliance, and governance processes; tests control design and operating effectiveness; evaluates exceptions and root causes; writes re-performable workpapers and findings; and follows remediation without designing or operating the control. The role is accountable for this outcome: leadership and the audit committee receive an independent, evidence-based view of whether important business controls and processes work, where risk exceeds tolerance, and whether remediation actually closes the gap. At Individual Contributor altitude, it owns engagement risk assessment and scope within the approved audit plan, walkthrough, test design, evidence request, sampling, reperformance, and workpaper quality, preliminary evaluation of exceptions, findings, root cause, impact, and remediation recommendation, objective reporting and follow-up on whether agreed actions were completed and effective; advises on process and control owners on practical remediation while they retain design, implementation, and risk ownership, Internal Audit leadership and the audit committee on risk, severity, reliance, plan changes, and themes while they retain final governance decisions; and escalates a potential significant or material deficiency, fraud, illegal act, management override, retaliation, or obstruction, a scope limitation, evidence restriction, independence or objectivity threat, or pressure to change a supported conclusion, a residual-risk acceptance, audit-plan change, or matter requiring Legal, executive, or audit-committee authority. The source material identifies Internal Auditor as the functionally equivalent label. This package preserves the separate roster identity required by the owner and does not fabricate a difference in legal or operational authority. The Finance overview interprets the generic Auditor row as the in-house internal-audit seat. This package keeps that source-supported interpretation and explicitly avoids widening the role into an external financial-statement audit firm engagement. Its value is independent judgment under evidence: scope from risk, test what matters, make limitations visible, and preserve a conclusion that can survive review.
