Responsibilities
- Take end-to-end responsibility for an assigned channel deliverable - an onboarding batch, a deal-registration queue, a tier reconciliation, an enablement rollout - translating an ambiguous request into a documented result partners and the manager can use
- Process deal-registration reviews against the program's documented criteria - checking for conflict, duplicates, and completeness - and record the decision with evidence, owner, and expiry, escalating the rulings that are not yours to make
- Run partner onboarding: the agreement paperwork, PRM / portal setup, tier assignment against the program rules, and the first-90-days enablement path, so a new reseller reaches selling-ready without avoidable delay
- Maintain the PRM / partner portal and related CRM as reliable operating records - correcting stale ownership, missing contacts, expired agreements, and tier drift so the channel data is trustworthy, not decorative
- Coordinate enablement logistics - scheduling partner training, distributing certified assets and playbooks, and tracking completion against tier requirements
- Serve as first-line response for partner queries on registration, pricing tiers, portal access, MDF, and program mechanics - answering within policy and routing what exceeds it
- Monitor active partner count, deal-registration volume and cycle time, and channel pipeline in the PRM, and investigate a change far enough to name the cause, the affected workflow, and the required action
- Create and maintain MDF and program-request paperwork and channel performance reporting so the manager and another qualified person can see current state without a briefing
The essence of this seat
The Channel Partner Specialist executes the running of an indirect channel - the entry-level individual contributor who keeps resellers, VARs, and distributors onboarded, registered, tracked, and answered so the channel motion actually turns.
Signature move
Check conflict and duplicates before you process any registration. The first move on any deal-reg is the conflict and duplicate check against the register and the direct pipeline, because a reg is a promise about the partner's margin - process it clean and same-day, or the partner takes the next deal elsewhere
What good looks like
processes the queue against conflict / duplicate / completeness checks rather than rubber-stamping or forwarding raw; records clean regs same-day with owner / evidence / expiry; splits out incomplete (back to partner) from contested (routed up with evidence); knows the ruling on a real conflict is the manager's, not theirs to invent
Decision rights
- - processing deal-registration reviews against the documented program criteria and recording the outcome
- - running onboarding packets, agreement collection, and portal / PRM setup
- - PRM / CRM record hygiene and tier tracking on the channel book
- - enablement logistics (scheduling, asset distribution, completion tracking)
- - first-line partner-query responses within policy
Working vocabulary
What this role does
The Channel Partner Specialist executes the running of an indirect channel - the entry-level individual contributor who keeps resellers, VARs, and distributors onboarded, registered, tracked, and answered so the channel motion actually turns. Core work is taking an assigned deliverable - a batch of partners to onboard, a queue of deal registrations to review, a set of tier records to reconcile, an enablement rollout to coordinate - and moving it from an ambiguous request to a documented, usable result another qualified person could pick up. This is an entry / execution individual-contributor seat that manages tasks and partner queries, not people and not a quota: it reports to and takes direction from a Channel Partner Manager who owns the channel book, the recruitment quota, and the partner relationships, and it works alongside the direct sales team, marketing, and deal desk. It is not the Channel Partner Manager who owns that book and carries the number (this seat executes the work the book generates, it does not own the book); not a Senior Channel Partner Account Manager, who owns the largest named channel accounts end to end; not an Alliance Manager, whose motion is strategic technology and GTM co-sell - joint business plans, joint solutions, and executive business reviews - a sell-with motion, not this indirect, transactional one; not a Field Alliance Manager, who aligns partner reps with the company's field sellers on live deals in a region; and not a Partner Program Operations Manager, who builds and runs the PRM, the partner portal, and the deal-registration process this seat executes within. Performance is visible in active partner count, deal-registration volume and cycle time, and onboarding throughput, so reliable execution produces a channel that keeps moving. What separates great from average is making the channel effortless for the partner and legible for the manager: a deal registration processed clean and same-day so the partner trusts the program with the next one; an onboarding path that gets a reseller selling rather than stuck in paperwork; a PRM kept current enough that the manager can act on it without a separate briefing; and a partner query either answered or routed - never left hanging. A mediocre specialist lets deal-regs pile up, onboards by improvising, lets the PRM rot into fiction, and either sits on a question or guesses at an answer that is not theirs to give. A great one runs the repeatable work to a documented standard, keeps the records honest, and knows exactly which decisions to surface up rather than invent - because at this altitude, judgment is knowing what is yours to execute and what is the manager's to decide.
