What this role does

The Director of Strategic Solution Engineering is the director who owns the Solution Engineering function for strategic and enterprise pursuits, including SE managers and senior ICs, technical-win strategy, coverage, POC and demo standards, talent, and cross-functional alignment on the largest deals. It is a Director seat operating at director of the strategic or enterprise Solution Engineering segment, leading managers and senior technical presales contributors. Its defining outcome is the largest strategic pursuits receive the right technical leadership, evidence, architecture, and executive engagement while the SE organization scales reusable standards instead of one-off heroics. The work is anchored in the role-specific record strategic technical-pursuit portfolio and SE coverage plan, because that record makes claims, assumptions, decisions, ownership, capacity, manager work, and unresolved risk inspectable. This seat owns the strategic-segment Solution Engineering strategy, manager team, coverage and capacity model, technical-win standards, talent system, and approved budget, the quality bar for technical discovery, architecture, demonstrations, POCs, security and compliance response, and technical close on strategic pursuits, and the prioritization and escalation system for the largest technical pursuits and the feedback loop into Product and Engineering. It advises on Enterprise Sales leadership and Account Executives on technical strategy, pursuit risk, resource allocation, and buyer decision evidence and Product, Engineering, Security, Legal, Customer Success, and Services leaders on product gaps, commitments, implementation risk, and field patterns. It escalates product roadmap or capability commitments, security or legal acceptance, unsupported architecture, pricing or commercial decisions, and material customer exceptions, SE budget, headcount, cross-segment capacity, or company technical-sales policy outside delegated authority, and formal people and employment decisions through the authorized process. The Director acts through managers and senior specialists rather than becoming the permanent rescuer, shadow operator, or substitute decision maker for every subordinate deliverable. Against Manager, Commercial Solution Engineers, This Director owns the strategic or enterprise segment, managers, standards, and largest pursuits; the Commercial SE Manager owns one commercial team and a higher-volume technical motion. Keep commercial team execution and velocity standards with T045 while setting strategic-segment strategy and manager mandates here. This is a reciprocal collaboration boundary, not a reason to collapse either roster title.
