Responsibilities
- Own annual budget and operating plan: inspect strategy, prior actuals, driver history, revenue and capacity assumptions, headcount, opex, capex, constraints, and leadership targets; translate strategy into a driver-based plan, define owners and review gates, challenge unsupported assumptions, and preserve versions; prevent or surface the budget is a negotiated spreadsheet that leaders do not believe or use.
- Own rolling forecast and reforecast: inspect latest actuals, operational drivers, pipeline, hiring, spend commitments, timing, risks, opportunities, and scenario triggers; re-base the forecast from current facts, distinguish run-rate from one-time effects, and maintain a decision-ready range; prevent or surface the forecast mechanically rolls forward despite evidence that the business model changed.
- Own management and board reporting: inspect actuals, plan, forecast, KPIs, drivers, variances, risks, actions, and data definitions; produce a concise package that explains what changed, why, what it means, and what decision is required; prevent or surface reporting presents accurate numbers but no causal narrative or action.
- Own headcount and opex/capex planning: inspect approved roles, start dates, attrition, compensation assumptions, vendor commitments, purchase orders, project timing, and capitalization policy; maintain a controlled capacity and spend forecast with named owners and change approvals; prevent or surface a headcount or vendor timing error creates a material spend surprise.
- Own business partnering and decision support: inspect leader objectives, operating metrics, constraints, options, unit economics, and decision deadlines; frame the economic decision, challenge assumptions, quantify scenarios, and translate the result into the plan; prevent or surface finance becomes a reporting service and is absent from the decision itself.
- Own planning systems and forecast accuracy: inspect model architecture, data lineage, access, versioning, formulas, overrides, forecast errors, bias, and cycle bottlenecks; govern the model and platform, backtest forecasts, identify bias, and improve the process without obscuring assumptions; prevent or surface spreadsheet fragility or opaque overrides make the plan impossible to reproduce.
- Produce and maintain Budget and Forecast Calendar with Decision Gates, Driver-Based Planning Model and Assumption Register, Monthly Management Performance Package, Forecast Accuracy and Bias Backtest, and Headcount, Opex, and Capex Control Plan as reviewable working artifacts.
- Manage the FP&A Manager delegation edges to FP&A Analyst, Financial Analyst when assigned, and Finance systems or data partners, including staffing, workload, review, coaching, growth, performance evidence, succession, and escalation needed to deliver leaders steer from a credible, driver-based plan that re-bases when facts change, exposes assumptions and uncertainty, connects decisions to financial outcomes, and arrives on a repeatable calendar rather than through spreadsheet heroics
