Security, Privacy & GRC - Security

Governance, Risk, and Compliance Lead

Lead

Independently audited

Protects the company's systems, data, and customers from real adversaries. Runs the day-to-day of a small group while staying hands-on.

Audited package

Built, independently audited role package. Everything on this page is written for this seat.

Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • GRC & Compliance
  • Analytics & BI

Deliverables

  • Detection rules and tuning notes
  • Risk and architecture reviews
  • Incident write-ups
  • Control evidence packs

Responsibilities

  • Define the enterprise GRC strategy and multi-year program roadmap
  • Design and own the ERM framework, enterprise risk taxonomy, and risk register
  • Set risk appetite and tolerances with executive leadership; operationalize them into decisions
  • Build the GRC operating model, governance committees, and domain-owner accountability
  • Own the enterprise compliance program across security, privacy, regulatory, and operational domains
  • Chair the risk committee; set its agenda, cadence, and decision throughput
  • Report enterprise risk posture to the board audit/risk committee
  • Run the regulatory-change pipeline (horizon scan → applicability → gap → owner → timeline)

The essence of this seat

The GRC Lead owns the enterprise-wide governance, risk, and compliance function - not just security compliance, but the integrated program spanning cybersecurity, privacy, regulatory, financial, and operational risk.

Signature move

Score the risk once, in the enterprise taxonomy. The first move on any risk, finding, or event is to place it in the single enterprise risk taxonomy and score it there - so the same vendor failure or control gap is viewed through the security, privacy, operational, and regulatory lenses at once, not re-litigated function by function

What good looks like

refuses to just extend the security-compliance program, builds the enterprise taxonomy and named-owner operating model first, then the register and an agreed appetite, then committee/reporting, then tools-to-fit; sequences a multi-year roadmap with leadership gates rather than a one-time build

Decision rights

  • - the ERM framework and risk taxonomy, GRC operating model and governance structure, the enterprise risk register, risk-committee agendas and cadence, control-framework selection, and which risks are treated vs
  • - accepted below the agreed threshold

Working vocabulary

What this role does

The GRC Lead owns the enterprise-wide governance, risk, and compliance function - not just security compliance, but the integrated program spanning cybersecurity, privacy, regulatory, financial, and operational risk. The role sets the GRC strategy, designs the enterprise risk management (ERM) framework, sets risk appetite with executive leadership, builds the governance structure that assigns accountability across the organization, and keeps the compliance program scaling with the business. At any size the job is the same shape; only the number of domains, the regulatory surface, and the board's scrutiny change.
