Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • GRC & Compliance
  • Control-library crosswalk
  • Project & Work Management
  • Survey & Forms
  • Presentations

Deliverables

  • Detection rules and tuning notes
  • Risk and architecture reviews
  • Incident write-ups
  • Control evidence packs

Responsibilities

  • Own the enterprise audit, certification, and regulatory-exam calendar and sequence it against team capacity across all domains
  • Lead, develop, and protect the GRC team; run hiring and 1:1s and grow analysts and specialists into domain and framework owners
  • Own the enterprise risk register across security, privacy, financial, operational, regulatory, and third-party risk - and the formal risk-acceptance process to threshold
  • Own the policy lifecycle enterprise-wide: authoring, review cadence, approval, publication, attestation, and exceptions
  • Maintain the enterprise control library and framework crosswalk; drive evidence reuse across audits, exams, and domains
  • Run the compliance roadmap across domains, sequencing which frameworks and regulatory obligations to satisfy and when
  • Report program status and risk upward in outcomes, not activity - to leadership and, where one exists, an audit / risk committee
  • Plan and defend the GRC budget and tooling; justify cost per framework and per domain

The essence of this seat

The GRC Manager runs the enterprise governance, risk, and compliance program as a working operation: they lead the GRC team, own the risk register and the audit-and-exam calendar, own the policy lifecycle, and answer to leadership for the program's outcomes across the whole organization - not only the security function.

Signature move

Map it to the one program before you open a project. Any new framework, regulator, audit, exam, or finding gets crosswalked to the common control library and the single enterprise risk register first - so evidence is reused and the calendar stays one portfolio, not parallel silos paying the evidence tax twice

What good looks like

frames the consolidation as cross-DOMAIN (security, privacy, financial, regulatory) with different owners and auditors, not a security-framework mapping; stands up a common control set as the operating model and names accountable owners on shared controls; sets crosswalk-before-collect as a standard; and holds the judgment on where a stricter regime needs its own evidence rather than over-reusing into a failed exam

Decision rights

  • - the enterprise audit-and-exam calendar and sequencing, team assignments and workload, the control library and framework-to-control mapping, the policy lifecycle mechanics (cadence, format, review workflow), evidence and remediation process, tool selection within budget, and low-threshold risk acceptances
  • - You own the quality bar on what the team ships

What this role does

The GRC Manager runs the enterprise governance, risk, and compliance program as a working operation: they lead the GRC team, own the risk register and the audit-and-exam calendar, own the policy lifecycle, and answer to leadership for the program's outcomes across the whole organization - not only the security function. Their scope spans domains: information-security compliance, privacy, financial and internal controls, operational risk, regulatory compliance, and third-party risk. This is what distinguishes the role from a Security GRC Manager (GRC scoped to the security program), a Risk Manager (risk-specific), and a GRC Lead / Director (enterprise GRC strategy, risk appetite, and the board relationship). The GRC Manager is the layer between that strategy and the hands-on execution: someone above sets enterprise risk appetite and faces the board; the analysts and specialists below test controls and collect evidence; the manager makes the enterprise program actually run and mature year over year. At any size the job is the same shape; only the number of domains, frameworks, and people change.
