Audited package

Built, independently audited role package. Everything on this page is written for this seat.

Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • Endpoint & Device (MDM/UEM)
  • Observability & Monitoring
  • Forensics / DFIR
  • Threat Detection (SIEM/EDR/SOAR)
  • ITSM / Service Desk

Deliverables

  • Detection rules and tuning notes
  • Risk and architecture reviews
  • Incident write-ups
  • Control evidence packs

Responsibilities

  • Take incident command when an incident is declared - classify severity and assign scribe, investigation, comms, and liaison roles
  • Drive containment and eradication decisions on available evidence, within pre-authorized thresholds
  • Lead or direct the forensic investigation and reconstruct a living, timestamped incident timeline
  • Preserve evidence and maintain chain of custody for potential legal proceedings
  • Coordinate the responders working the incident (SOC analysts, detection & response engineers, security analysts) and IT/engineering containment actions
  • Communicate proactively with the CISO, executives, legal/privacy, affected customers, and regulators on a set cadence
  • Assess breach-notification triggers and draft notifications for legal sign-off
  • Run blameless post-incident reviews and convert findings into tracked, owned improvements

The essence of this seat

The Incident Response Lead takes command when a security incident is declared and drives it to resolution.

Signature move

Classify and take command first. On any declared incident the first move is to set severity by impact x urgency and stand up the command structure - name a scribe, an investigation lead, a comms owner, and a liaison - because the classification and the roles, not the noise on the bridge, set the response and who is pulled in. Command is a role, not one person doing everything

What good looks like

takes command and classifies before investigating; stops the evidence-destroying reboot as a first-minute reflex; stands command up as assigned roles (scribe/investigation/comms/liaison) with a live timeline; pulls legal in at declaration; keeps itself commanding rather than sinking into the keyboard

Decision rights

  • - incident classification and severity, incident command structure and role assignment, containment and eradication actions within pre-authorized thresholds, investigation priorities, evidence-handling procedure, and when the incident is closed

What this role does

The Incident Response Lead takes command when a security incident is declared and drives it to resolution. They coordinate the technical investigation, make containment and eradication decisions, manage communication with stakeholders (legal, executives, affected customers), ensure evidence is preserved for potential legal proceedings, and close the incident cleanly. Between incidents they build and maintain the IR program - playbooks, communication templates, escalation procedures, tabletop exercises, and lessons-learned processes. The work is inherently unpredictable: a quiet week of program-building can flip into a 72-hour response coordinating forensics, briefing legal on notification obligations, guiding IT through containment, and updating the CISO on a cadence - often at 2 AM with partial information. The same command discipline scales from a security team of one to a dedicated IR function.
