Mobile iOS Engineer
IC / Practitioner
Independently auditedBuilds and operates the software the business runs on. Owns a defined area of the function and the outcomes it produces.
Audited package
Built, independently audited role package. Everything on this page is written for this seat.
Your Stack (Swappable)
This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

Responsibilities
- Design native iOS application architecture, navigation, dependency boundaries, and state ownership using the selected UIKit or SwiftUI stack.
- Implement Swift features with structured concurrency, actor isolation, cancellation, error handling, and testable dependencies.
- Build offline caching, local persistence, queued work, conflict handling, and synchronization against explicit backend contracts.
- Integrate Apple platform capabilities such as push notifications, background tasks, deep links, universal links, keychain, camera, and share extensions as required.
- Support VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, reduced motion, contrast, keyboard where applicable, orientation, and device-size behavior.
- Measure cold and warm launch, main-thread stalls, memory growth, retain cycles, energy, network, and scrolling performance.
- Write unit, integration, snapshot or UI, accessibility, lifecycle, and upgrade tests on simulator and representative devices.
- Manage build configuration, signing, entitlements, TestFlight, store metadata coordination, phased release, and rollback or disable controls.
The essence of this seat
The Mobile iOS Engineer is the native iOS specialist who builds and operates Swift applications across Apple devices, owning UIKit or SwiftUI architecture, app and scene lifecycle, offline synchronization, push behavior, performance, signing, and App Store delivery.

What this role does
The Mobile iOS Engineer is the native iOS specialist who builds and operates Swift applications across Apple devices, owning UIKit or SwiftUI architecture, app and scene lifecycle, offline synchronization, push behavior, performance, signing, and App Store delivery. Its signature evidence includes the iOS lifecycle state map, the mobile sync contract, and the iOS accessibility checklist. The earliest proof that the seat is working is visible in these leading signals: lifecycle and restoration states designed before implementation; device performance budgets and representative test matrix defined; sync and retry semantics agreed with Backend. It remains an individual contributor reporting through Engineering Manager, with Product Design, Backend, Privacy and Security, and the App Store release owner at Apple platform seams. This package covers only the canonical Mobile iOS Engineer roster title. It owns general native iOS application engineering across Swift, UIKit or SwiftUI, app lifecycle, offline and push behavior, performance, signing, and App Store delivery. iOS Engineer - Companions and Software Engineer, iOS - Ads Product remain separate 1:1 role packages. The altitude and seams are explicit. The Mobile Android Engineer owns Kotlin, Android lifecycle and process-death behavior, OEM fragmentation, and Play distribution, while this seat owns Apple SDKs, lifecycle, hardware, signing, and App Store reality. The Frontend Engineer owns the web runtime, browser navigation, and web accessibility behavior, while this seat owns a native iOS application and its platform integration. Product Design owns the experience decision, while this seat adapts it to iOS conventions and owns native implementation quality. Backend Engineering owns server truth and synchronization contracts, while this seat owns local state, offline behavior, and the client side of reconciliation. Two mental models should be visible in the work. The process is disposable. The user intent must survive backgrounding, suspension, memory pressure, and termination without assuming an in-memory task finishes. The main thread is a scarce interaction resource. Any work placed on it spends responsiveness. Measure and move non-UI work deliberately. For this Mobile iOS Engineer, those ideas must be visible in its signature artifacts, review request, release decision, and hand-off rather than remaining vocabulary.
