Responsibilities

  • Own contract and performance-obligation assessment: inspect executed contract, amendments, side letters, termination rights, promised goods or services, acceptance, renewal, refund, and collectibility terms; identify the contract and obligations, document the accounting unit, and flag legal or factual ambiguity before recognition; prevent or surface a side letter or implied promise creates an unassessed obligation and revenue is recognized too early.
  • Own transaction price and allocation: inspect fixed fees, usage, rebates, credits, concessions, financing, variable consideration, SSP evidence, portfolio treatment, and allocation logic; estimate and constrain consideration, establish or update SSP, allocate consistently, and preserve model governance; prevent or surface unsupported SSP or unconstrained variable consideration materially distorts timing or amount.
  • Own contract modifications and lifecycle events: inspect upsell, downgrade, renewal, cancellation, scope change, price change, termination, refund, and entitlement event; classify the modification and update schedules, billing, deferred balances, and disclosures without double counting; prevent or surface a modification is treated as a new contract when it should update the existing arrangement.
  • Own revenue close and deferred balances: inspect sub-ledger, billing, usage, contract assets, deferred revenue, journal entries, reconciliations, cutoff, foreign currency, and exceptions; run the revenue close, reconcile source to sub-ledger to general ledger, review unusual movements, and certify balances; prevent or surface deferred revenue or contract assets do not reconcile and the close continues anyway.
  • Own deal-desk accounting review: inspect non-standard pricing, bundling, cancellation, acceptance, refund, reseller, partner, usage, milestone, and financing terms before signature; provide decision-ready accounting guidance, required language or operational controls, and an approval or escalation; prevent or surface a non-standard deal is signed before accounting can determine or operationalize the treatment.
  • Own revenue policy, systems, controls, and disclosure: inspect policy, system configuration, data lineage, reports, access, change evidence, disclosures, and audit requests; translate policy into executable requirements, control changes, disclosure support, and audit-ready documentation; prevent or surface the accounting policy is technically sound but impossible for the billing or revenue system to execute.
  • Produce and maintain Contract Revenue Assessment Memo, Standalone Selling Price and Allocation Matrix, Revenue Close and Deferred Reconciliation, Non-Standard Deal Accounting Decision Log, and Revenue Policy and Systems Change Record as reviewable working artifacts.
  • Manage the Revenue Accounting Manager delegation edges to Revenue accountants or senior accountants assigned to revenue, Sales Compensation or billing analysts when matrixed, and Revenue systems contributors, including staffing, workload, review, coaching, growth, performance evidence, succession, and escalation needed to deliver revenue is recognized in the right amount and period from contracts the systems can execute, non-standard deals are reviewed before signature, deferred balances reconcile, and every material conclusion survives controllership and audit review
