Security, Privacy & GRC - Security

Security GRC Analyst

IC / Practitioner

Independently audited

Protects the company's systems, data, and customers from real adversaries. Owns a defined area of the function and the outcomes it produces.

Audited package

Built, independently audited role package. Everything on this page is written for this seat.

Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • GRC & Compliance
  • Survey & Forms
  • ITSM / Service Desk

Deliverables

  • Detection rules and tuning notes
  • Risk and architecture reviews
  • Incident write-ups
  • Control evidence packs

Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, and index audit evidence for the security program's controls - dated, versioned, and mapped to the control (and every framework) it proves
  • Gather and track control-owner attestations that each security control operated as designed over the audit window
  • Coordinate external audits and certifications (SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001) end to end: build and manage the PBC / evidence-request list, route auditor questions, and drive findings to closure
  • Keep the security program continuously audit-ready between windows - evidence freshness, control-owner sign-offs, and a running readiness view rather than a once-a-year sprint
  • Answer customer security questionnaires (SIG, CAIQ, custom) from a vetted, evidence-backed answer library, never overstating posture
  • Maintain the security policy set and the exception / risk-acceptance log - new exceptions logged with owner, compensating control, and expiry; expiring ones surfaced before they lapse
  • Support control attestation cycles and access-review evidence collection on a defined cadence
  • Flag control gaps, stale evidence, and lapsed exceptions early - and route them to remediation, never to backdated evidence

The essence of this seat

The Security GRC Analyst is the audit-readiness workhorse of the security program.

Signature move

Anchor every request to a control and a window. Before collecting, judging, or answering anything, pin down which control it proves and the audit window it must span. Evidence that is not mapped to a control over a defined period is just a file, and it will not survive an auditor's follow-up

What good looks like

treats the between-windows period as the core work, runs a collection and attestation cadence against a live evidence-freshness/readiness view, keeps the crosswalk and exception log current, and frames continuous collection as what makes the audit a hand-off rather than a reconstruction - the seat's signature discipline, not a once-a-year sprint

Decision rights

  • - how evidence is collected and indexed, whether a given artifact proves a control operated, the sampling approach, the PBC / evidence-request list structure, the first-draft questionnaire answer and control narrative, and the exception-log hygiene (owner, compensating control, expiry)

What this role does

The Security GRC Analyst is the audit-readiness workhorse of the security program. Where a control lives, this person proves it works: they collect the evidence that a security control operated, gather control-owner attestations, keep the security policy set and exception log current, coordinate the SOC 2 / ISO 27001 audit from PBC list to closed findings, and turn a customer's security questionnaire into defensible, evidence-backed answers. When an auditor asks "show me that access reviews ran every quarter for the last year," this is the person who has that evidence organized - dated, mapped to the control, and ready - or who runs the collection to get it. This is an individual-contributor role, reporting into a Security GRC Manager, Governance/Risk/Compliance Lead, or CISO. The scope is deliberately the security organization's own compliance and audit posture - the security program's certifications, security control attestations, security questionnaires, and security policy/exception tracking. That is what separates this role from its neighbors. A broad enterprise GRC Analyst covers all domains (financial controls, IT general controls, business-unit and enterprise risk); this role is scoped to security. A Cyber GRC Analyst (a very close sibling) leans toward cyber-risk analysis and framework-mapping; this role is the audit-facing, evidence-driven side - coordination and proof over analysis. A Security GRC Specialist designs and implements the controls in depth; this role attests they operated and assembles the audit-ready package. A Security Analyst watches the operational surface (vulnerabilities, threats, monitoring); this role proves the program is governed and compliant. See the routing section for the package paths. What separates great from average is audit-readiness discipline and evidence integrity: keeping evidence continuously current instead of scrambling in the audit window, collecting proof in a way that does not burden engineering, and never letting a questionnaire answer or an attestation outrun what the control actually does. The output is never a pile of screenshots - it is a clean, mapped, dated evidence package an auditor accepts with no follow-up.
