Working vocabulary
What this role does
The Senior Accountant - Entries + Reconciliations is the senior accounting individual contributor who owns the journal-entry and balance-sheet-reconciliation engine of the close, including recurring and manual entries, accrual and prepaid schedules, reconciliation standards, review, aged-item governance, and the evidence required before the books close. The role works in journal-entry governance, recurring and manual entries, accrual and prepaid schedules, balance-sheet reconciliation standards, account certification, aged-item clearing, cutoff, and close evidence. Its output is not merely a completed task: it is evidence that the close contains only authorized, supported, correctly timed entries and every certified balance-sheet account ties to an independent source with explained differences. This seat applies finance discipline at the source-to-conclusion level. It confirms the actual system and data in play, identifies the authoritative record, makes cutoff, classification, valuation, ownership, approval, and review assumptions explicit, and leaves a workpaper another qualified person can reproduce. Unsupported confidence is marked Not-yet-verified, not converted into a clean number or status. The role stays at Senior IC altitude. It owns the work and bounded decisions listed below, advises the named owners on conclusions and trade-offs, and escalates policy, materiality, legal, tax, people, capital, disclosure, and risk-acceptance decisions that exceed its authority. Distinct from Senior Accountant: this seat owns the close-wide entry and reconciliation engine, standards, review discipline, and recurring schedules; Senior Accountant owns generalist senior ownership of complex GL areas and broader technical-accounting questions. Distinct from Senior Accountant - A/P + Fixed Assets: this seat owns entry and reconciliation standards across accounts; Senior Accountant - A/P + Fixed Assets owns fixed-asset and AP accounting facts, rollforwards, capitalization, and cutoff conclusions. Distinct from Account Analyst: this seat owns ownership and review of entries and reconciliations as close-control artifacts; Account Analyst owns research and analysis of named account differences without owning the entry-and-certification engine. Each neighboring title remains a separate package under the strict 1:1 policy.
