Responsibilities

  • Own the design and delivery of the organization's flagship and most complex integrated campaigns end to end - the objective, the audience and segmentation, the messaging architecture, the channel mix, the offer, the flighting, and the budget split within an approved envelope
  • Orchestrate the cross-functional cast a large campaign needs - set the RACI, the campaign calendar slot, the dependency plan, and the launch-readiness gate across creative, content, web, marketing operations, demand generation, product marketing, sales / SDR, regional teams, brand, legal, and analytics
  • Own the measurement design for those campaigns - set the KPI targets against the goal, define the attribution read, apply the taxonomy and naming convention, design the test or holdout, and produce the in-flight and post-campaign readouts with honest, decision-ready findings
  • Make the launch-readiness call and the in-flight optimization calls within the approved plan and budget - decide go / hold at the gate, reallocate spend across channels and phases, pause, scale, or adjust targeting to protect the goal
  • Author and steward the reusable campaign playbooks, brief templates, and the measurement standard that the campaign managers reuse - the pattern this seat leaves behind, proposed to the Director for function-wide adoption rather than mandated
  • Mentor and coach the campaign managers and campaign ICs - review their plans and readouts, raise their craft, and grow the function's bench without holding formal management authority over them
  • Run multi-region and multi-segment programs as a global-to-local model - set the shared spine and the local adaptation model, name the regional owners and the shared-versus-local budget and calendar, and keep localization on brand and on consent
  • Lead campaign-level cross-functional commitments at a scale a single campaign manager cannot hold, and set the interfaces the contributing teams operate through

The essence of this seat

The Senior Campaign Manager is the senior individual contributor in the campaign function - the person a marketing org hands its largest, most strategic, most cross-cutting integrated campaigns to, and trusts to bring them in coordinated, on time, and measurable.

Signature move

Design the whole before any channel. Name the outcome and the audience, then draw the integrated architecture - message, segments, channel mix, flighting, budget split - as one system. A campaign assembled channel by channel has no spine

What this role does

The Senior Campaign Manager is the senior individual contributor in the campaign function - the person a marketing org hands its largest, most strategic, most cross-cutting integrated campaigns to, and trusts to bring them in coordinated, on time, and measurable. The scope is the hardest campaigns specifically: the flagship product launch, the multi-region rollout, the multi-segment or multi-business-unit program - the campaigns that span more channels, more teams, more regions, and more risk than a single campaign manager can hold alone. On those, the seat owns the full arc: the integrated architecture (objective, audience and segmentation, messaging, channel mix, offer, flighting, and the budget split within an approved envelope), the cross-functional orchestration (the RACI, the calendar, the dependencies, and the launch-readiness gate across creative, content, web, marketing operations, demand generation, product marketing, sales / SDR, regional teams, brand, legal, and analytics), the measurement design (KPI targets, the attribution read, the taxonomy, and the test or holdout), and the in-flight optimization and post-campaign readout. What makes the seat senior, and not just a manager with bigger campaigns, is the second half of the job: the seat extracts the reusable playbook and the measurement standard from the hard campaign and mentors the campaign managers to run to it, so the whole function gets sharper - not just this launch. This is a senior IC and player-coach seat, typically reporting to a Director of Campaign Marketing (or, in a leaner org, to a Head of Marketing), leading by craft authority and mentoring, with no headcount, no function budget, and no org design to own. It is deliberately not a management seat and not a single-campaign seat. The Senior Campaign Manager does not run the function - the portfolio, the master calendar, the department budget, the headcount, and the org design are the Director's - and does not spend its days on one routine campaign the way a Campaign Marketing Manager does. What separates great from average is turning a talent for running one hard campaign into a pattern the function can reuse: an integrated design that is a coherent system rather than a stack of channel sends, a measurement standard that lets campaigns be compared and killed on the same basis, an orchestration model that makes the next multi-region launch cheaper because the seams are already named, and a bench of campaign managers who level up because the senior seat coached them and left a playbook behind. A mediocre senior campaigner hoards the flagship, keeps the craft in their head, and becomes a bottleneck the function routes around; a great one runs the hardest campaign brilliantly, writes down how, and makes everyone around them better at it.
