Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • Prospecting & Data Enrichment
  • Survey & Forms

Deliverables

  • Campaign briefs and copy
  • Content calendar
  • Positioning and messaging docs
  • Performance and attribution reporting

Responsibilities

  • Run the lead lifecycle end to end on the marketing side - the stages from capture through MQL to the sales handoff, with defined entry and exit criteria and an owner on each stage - so demand runs on a documented system rather than tribal knowledge and rescue work
  • Own the lead scoring model and the routing rules: the demographic and behavioral scoring that decides which leads are sales-ready, and the assignment logic and SLA that put each lead in front of the right owner fast, measured against downstream conversion rather than against how clever the rules look
  • Set the campaign-operations standard - the build checklist, campaign QA, UTM and naming governance, and launch discipline - and lead the team that executes it so campaigns fire cleanly, are attributable, and do not break the instance
  • Own the marketing attribution methodology and the reporting standard - which model answers which question, the marketing dashboards demand gen and leadership plan from, and the reconciliation with the pipeline number sales and RevOps report on
  • Keep the MAP and the martech stack reliable enough to plan, escalate, and audit against - sending and database limits, deliverability and sender reputation, the integrations to the CRM, and the database-hygiene standard that keeps scoring, routing, and reporting true
  • Run the marketing-ops management system that connects team capacity, lead-processing speed, and data quality so trade-offs are explicit before a launch date is committed rather than absorbed after
  • Lead the response when the lifecycle breaks - a routing rule that leaks leads, a scoring job that mis-scored a segment, a send that threatens deliverability - contain it, find the root cause in the rule, the definition, or the integration, and drive the durable fix
  • Align demand generation, sales, and revenue operations on the MQL definition, the handoff SLA, dependencies, and decision dates before the team accepts a cross-functional commitment

The essence of this seat

The Senior Marketing Operations Manager runs the operating system that turns marketing activity into leads sales can act on.

Signature move

Diagnose the class before you patch the symptom. On any routing miss, "these leads are garbage" complaint, or deliverability scare, name whether it is a scoring, a routing, a definition, or a data problem first - the class sets the fix and the owner, and a one-off rescue that skips it just schedules the next fire

What good looks like

recovers the leaked leads first (they are perishable), then fixes the rule by

Decision rights

  • - the marketing-side lead lifecycle and its stage definitions
  • - the lead scoring model and the routing rules and assignment logic
  • - the MAP administration, the sending and deliverability governance, and the database-hygiene standard
  • - the campaign-operations standard, the QA checklist, and UTM and naming governance
  • - the marketing attribution methodology and the marketing reporting standard

What this role does

The Senior Marketing Operations Manager runs the operating system that turns marketing activity into leads sales can act on. The seat owns five things and the team that maintains them: the lead lifecycle (the marketing-side path a person travels from first capture through scoring, routing, and nurture to a clean handoff to sales, and the stages and definitions that path runs on), the lead scoring and routing engine (the model that says which leads are ready and the rules that put each one in front of the right owner inside an SLA), campaign operations (the build, QA, UTM and naming governance, and launch discipline that make a campaign fire cleanly and be measurable), marketing attribution and reporting (the model and the dashboards that tell marketing which programs actually produced pipeline), and the marketing automation platform, martech stack, and data hygiene (the MAP as system of record, its sending, database, and deliverability limits, the integrations, and the database quality everything else depends on). It leads a team of marketing-ops analysts and specialists who build the campaigns, tune the programs, and run the reporting; the manager sets the model they run and reviews what ships, rather than building every nurture and pulling every attribution report by hand. This is a people-management seat that reports into marketing operations leadership - a Director of Marketing Operations, a Principal Marketing Operations Manager (017), or a VP of Marketing / CMO, depending on how the company is structured. Its whole job is to make the marketing engine reliable: leads captured, scored, and routed fast and clean; campaigns that launch without breaking the instance; and a measurement layer marketing can plan off. What separates great from average is whether the lead lifecycle runs as one governed system with definitions marketing and sales both trust - and whether marketing ops is experienced as the engine that makes demand convert rather than the team that files tickets after a campaign breaks. A mediocre manager reacts to each routing miss and deliverability scare as a one-off and owns an attribution number nobody believes; a great one designs the lifecycle so leads route correctly by construction, governs the MAP so a launch never takes the instance down, and builds specialists who own a program without escalating routine judgment. The standard-setting and multi-function martech architecture authority above this seat is the Principal Marketing Operations Manager's (017_Principal_Marketing_Operations_Manager/); the end-to-end lead-to-cash funnel across marketing, sales, and CS is the RevOps Manager's (015_RevOps_Manager/); the sales-org slice is the Sales Operations Manager's (013_Sales_Operations_Manager/); whole-business analysis is the BizOps Manager's (002_BizOps_Manager/); and the campaign strategy, channel mix, and budget belong to Demand Gen and marketing leadership this role enables.
