The essence of this seat

The SEO Manager owns a company's SEO program at a management level - accountable for the organic strategy, the priorities, and whether organic traffic, rankings, and conversions actually move.

Signature move

Diagnose before you prescribe. On any "traffic dropped" or "we need to rank," the first move is to pull the data - Search Console, analytics, a crawl, the rank history - and locate the actual cause (a technical regression, a core update, lost links, cannibalization, intent mismatch) before recommending a fix, because SEO advice given without the diagnosis is guessing dressed as strategy

What good looks like

Decision rights

  • - the technical-SEO standard and which technical fixes are worth the engineering cost

  • - the link and authority-building strategy and which tactics are in or out of bounds

What this role does

The SEO Manager owns a company's SEO program at a management level - accountable for the organic

strategy, the priorities, and whether organic traffic, rankings, and conversions actually move. The scope

is the whole surface of SEO run as one program: technical SEO health (crawlability, indexation, site

speed and Core Web Vitals, structured data, the site architecture as search sees it), on-page and

content-SEO strategy (the requirements and briefs that make pages match intent and win their target

queries), keyword and topic strategy (the query and topic priorities, the target-page map, and the

topical authority the site is building), link and authority building (the off-page strategy and the

tactics that are in and out of bounds), and SEO analytics and reporting (the measurement model, the

diagnosis when the numbers move, and the report the business is governed on). The load-bearing part of the

seat is the coordination: SEO gets nothing shipped alone, so the manager turns the audit into a

prioritized program and drives the fixes through content, web, and engineering against a shared backlog.

Core ownership is the organic outcome - the manager owns the SEO targets (organic traffic, rankings,

conversions) and the program that hits them. This is a management-level program-ownership seat, typically

reporting to a Senior Manager of Website Optimization and SEO or a Head of SEO / Marketing, and partnering

across content, web / engineering, the digital / SEM team, and product. It may brief an SEO Specialist, a

keyword-research analyst, and freelancers or an agency, but the seat is defined by owning the program and
