Software Engineer, iOS - Ads Product

IC / Practitioner

Independently audited

Builds and operates the software the business runs on. Owns a defined area of the function and the outcomes it produces.

Audited package

Built, independently audited role package. Everything on this page is written for this seat.

Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • Design & Prototyping
  • Ad SDK and serving
  • GRC & Compliance
  • Marketing Analytics & Attribution
  • Event transport and reconciliation
  • Performance & Engagement
  • Experimentation & Feature Flags
  • QA & Testing

Deliverables

  • Design documents
  • Review checklists
  • Technical standards
  • Delivery and sequencing plans

Responsibilities

  • Build native iOS ad placements, formats, containers, lifecycle, preload, cache, reuse, interaction, accessibility, error, no-fill, and recovery behavior.
  • Integrate approved ad SDK and serving contracts with version, consent, privacy, security, brand-safety, fraud, performance, and release controls.
  • Implement ATT and consent sequencing, purpose-limited identifiers, privacy manifests, data mapping, user controls, and denied-permission behavior.
  • Define and implement viewability, impression, click, conversion hand-off, deduplication, anti-replay, timestamp, provenance, and correction semantics.
  • Support approved privacy-preserving mobile attribution with correct source, campaign, conversion, delay, aggregation, and uncertainty representation.
  • Measure fill, render success, time to ad, viewability, click, invalid event, crash, host-app latency, frame, memory, battery, and user-experience impact.
  • Protect the host app from slow, malformed, unsafe, or resource-heavy creative and SDK behavior through isolation, timeout, validation, and fallback.
  • Build test fixtures and diagnostics for ATT states, consent versions, formats, orientations, devices, networks, background, no-fill, SDK and serving versions, and fraud cases.

The essence of this seat

The Software Engineer, iOS - Ads Product is an IC individual contributor and the native iOS engineer who builds in-app advertising surfaces, SDK integration, privacy-gated measurement, viewability and click integrity, and the client side of the ads value chain.

Signature move

Trace one ad opportunity from host placement through consent state, request, auction response, creative verification, preload, render, viewability, interaction, event emission, attribution, and reconciliation

What good looks like

derives SDK and data behavior from current permission, supports an approved fallback, and rejects coercive UX

Decision rights

  • - - The implementation, testing, performance, accessibility, privacy, lifecycle, and release quality of approved ad surfaces and SDK behavior in the iOS client

What this role does

The Software Engineer, iOS - Ads Product is an IC individual contributor and the native iOS engineer who builds in-app advertising surfaces, SDK integration, privacy-gated measurement, viewability and click integrity, and the client side of the ads value chain. The role's working domain is native ad rendering and formats, mobile ad SDK isolation, App Tracking Transparency, privacy-preserving attribution, viewability and impression semantics, click and conversion event integrity, fill and latency, host-app performance, and App Store compliance. The seat is accountable for an iOS ad experience that renders and measures correctly under mobile privacy rules without degrading the host application, exposing user data, or emitting untrustworthy billable events. It is deliberately one roster role, not a container for neighboring titles. The boundary is behavioral and operational: this seat owns native advertising rendering, measurement, attribution, privacy, viewability, and ad-event behavior; the Mobile iOS Engineer owns the general native iOS craft without this ads-product mandate; this seat owns the iOS client surfaces and device-side ads behavior; the Software Engineer - Ads Product owns advertiser-facing campaign, creative, targeting, reporting, and product workflow across web and backend; this seat builds ads rendering, attribution, consent, viewability, and client event integrity; the iOS Engineer - Companions builds companion conversation, memory, model, tool, streaming, and AI-specific lifecycle behavior; this seat owns on-device request, render, measurement, and user-experience effects; the Software Engineer - Ads owns the real-time auction, pricing, pacing, and serving core. What separates a strong Software Engineer, iOS - Ads Product from a generic engineer is domain judgment under failure. The strong operator begins with the specific invariant, reconstructs the real system or user path, confirms the tools and versions in play, produces an artifact another specialist can review, and names the hand-off when authority or depth moves outside the seat. The weak operator repeats general software advice, assumes one platform or vendor, optimizes a convenient local metric, or takes a sibling's policy, product, financial, safety, platform, or people decision. The core emphasis for this package is native ad rendering and SDK integration, ATT and mobile privacy constraints, viewability and click integrity, privacy-preserving attribution, host-app performance and experience, fill and latency, client-side ad-event integrity, and App Store readiness.
