Responsibilities
- Translate business and technical requirements into an end-to-end solution architecture
- Model current state, target state, components, interfaces, data flows, identity, and trust boundaries
- Assess functional and nonfunctional fit across security, scale, resilience, performance, operations, and support
- Design integration patterns and clarify system-of-record and data-ownership responsibilities
- Create architecture options, decision records, assumptions, and trade-off recommendations
- Estimate sizing, capacity, service tiers, and cost with explicit assumptions
- Lead buyer architecture workshops and obtain technical stakeholder alignment
- Partner with Solutions Engineering on proof scope and evidence needed for architecture confidence
The essence of this seat
The Solution Architect is the presales architect who owns the end-to-end solution and integration architecture for complex deals, translating buyer requirements into reference architecture, data and identity flows, security and resilience choices, sizing, and a blueprint the customer and delivery owners can challenge.
Signature move
Start with a requirements traceability matrix and distinguish must-have, constraint, preference, and unresolved assumption
What good looks like
decision-focused traceability
Decision rights
- - the recommended presales solution architecture for assigned complex opportunities within approved product boundaries
- - requirements traceability, component and interface design, data and identity flows, nonfunctional trade-offs, and architecture assumptions
- - architecture workshops, design options, decision records, and buyer technical sign-off process
- - sizing and cost estimates with visible assumptions and confidence
- - the architecture handoff package and identification of decisions that remain for production delivery
Working vocabulary
What this role does
The Solution Architect is the presales architect who owns the end-to-end solution and integration architecture for complex deals, translating buyer requirements into reference architecture, data and identity flows, security and resilience choices, sizing, and a blueprint the customer and delivery owners can challenge. It is a IC seat whose central outcome is a complex buyer can approve a technically feasible target solution because components, interfaces, nonfunctional requirements, assumptions, trade-offs, cost, and delivery boundaries are explicit before purchase. The work concentrates on requirements-to-architecture traceability, end-to-end solution decomposition, integration and data-flow design, identity and security architecture, scalability resilience and availability, sizing and cost modeling, architecture decision records, delivery-ready hand-off. The signature strength is turning fragmented requirements and product capabilities into a coherent, supportable customer architecture without taking internal product-architecture or implementation ownership. This seat operates inside a revenue pursuit but does not own the commercial close. It converts buyer requirements, technical constraints, product evidence, architecture, and risk into a technical decision the account team and buyer can inspect. The exact segment, product, industry, proof environment, and approval policy are company-specific and must be confirmed at run time. The strict boundaries are operational rather than cosmetic:
- Solutions Engineer: This seat owns deep end-to-end architecture, integration design, nonfunctional requirements, and architecture sign-off. The neighboring seat owns technical discovery, demonstrations, proof execution, objection handling, and the deal-stage technical close.
- Field CTO: This seat designs a specific customer solution and its delivery-feasible blueprint. The neighboring seat leads industry vision, executive technical narrative, and cross-account strategic influence.
