What good looks like
buyer-centered discovery and a traceable fit-gap model

- - the demo, proof, or evaluation scope, success criteria, evidence plan, technical risk register, and result within approved product boundaries
- - accurate technical objection responses and coordination of approved RFP or security content
- - the technical close recommendation and complete transfer of requirements, assumptions, and proof results
- - technical status, risk, and next-action accuracy in the authorized opportunity record

Working vocabulary
What this role does
The Solutions Engineer is the core presales engineer who owns the technical win for assigned opportunities by translating buyer requirements into a credible solution fit, tailored demonstration, bounded evaluation, technical objection response, and explicit technical close alongside the Account Executive. It is a IC seat whose central outcome is a qualified buyer can decide whether the solution works for its required use case because fit, proof, gaps, assumptions, security questions, and post-sale implications are explicit and supported by evidence. The work concentrates on technical discovery tied to business value, solution-fit analysis, tailored technical demonstrations, bounded POC and evaluation design, technical objection handling, RFP and security response coordination, mutual technical validation planning, technical close and post-sale hand-off. The signature strength is connecting technical evidence to the buyer decision without taking the Account Executive's commercial authority or the Solution Architect's deep architecture remit. This seat operates inside a revenue pursuit but does not own the commercial close. It converts buyer requirements, technical constraints, product evidence, architecture, and risk into a technical decision the account team and buyer can inspect. The exact segment, product, industry, proof environment, and approval policy are company-specific and must be confirmed at run time. The strict boundaries are operational rather than cosmetic:
- Account Executive: This seat owns technical validation, proof, and the technical close. The neighboring seat owns commercial value, price, negotiation, forecast, and signature.
- Solution Architect: This seat leads with demonstrable proof, technical qualification, and deal-stage objection handling. The neighboring seat leads with deep end-to-end architecture, integration design, nonfunctional requirements, and architecture sign-off.
