Your Stack (Swappable)

This role works against whatever tools you already run. We list the tool categories the role operates in, never a named vendor, so you are never asked to replace a system that works.

  • Sales Engagement
  • Analytics & BI
  • Project & Work Management
  • Docs & Knowledge
  • Team Chat & Collaboration
  • Business systems
  • Revenue / delivery visibility
  • Workflow Automation (no-code)

Deliverables

  • Strategy and operating plans
  • Board and executive narrative
  • Investment and trade-off recommendations
  • Organisational design proposals

Responsibilities

  • Own the company operating cadence - the review rhythm (weekly and quarterly business reviews), OKR governance, and the planning calendar
  • Convert strategy into a quarterly execution plan with named owners, decision rights, and review dates
  • Maintain the cross-functional dependency map and clear the blockers where functions hand off to each other
  • Own the KPI / operating dashboard so company-level decisions rest on consistent data and controls
  • Set and defend service and delivery standards; hold the line on on-time execution and delivery health
  • Make the operating trade-offs when priorities, capital, risk, and timing cannot all be satisfied
  • Design and mature the operating model - process redesign, the operating risk register, escalation thresholds
  • Shape the operations organization, its leadership, and succession within the functions the COO runs

The essence of this seat

The COO owns the company's operating rhythm and its ability to execute across functions.

Signature move

Name the owner, the date, and the decision right before anything moves. On any incoming plan, blocker, or request, the first move is to pin who owns it, by when, and who decides - unowned work with no review date is exactly how execution dies in the seams

What good looks like

diagnoses report-vs-decide; moves green to a one-line pre-read and spends the room only on the off-track few; cuts metrics to the predictive handful; installs a decision/corrective-plan exit test; refuses to fix a meeting by adding meetings or trackers

Decision rights

  • - the operating cadence, the quarterly execution plan, the KPI / operating dashboard and its controls, cross-functional trade-offs on timing / sequence / process, service and delivery standards, the operating risk register, and the design of the operations organization within your remit

What this role does

The COO owns the company's operating rhythm and its ability to execute across functions. The role takes the strategy the CEO and executive team set and turns it into an operating cadence, a quarterly execution plan, and a cross-functional dependency map, then keeps the operating scorecard decision-ready so leaders act on evidence rather than anecdote. Where a young company runs on heroics and a drawer full of trackers, the COO builds the operating system that makes execution repeatable, measurable, and recoverable when people or priorities change. At any size the shape is the same; only the scale of the org, the complexity of the dependencies, and the maturity of the operating system change.
