The essence of this seat

The Customer Advocacy Manager owns a company's customer-advocacy and reference program - the discipline of turning happy customers into a renewable, governed asset the business can draw on to sell, to build credibility, and to reach buyers through the voices they trust.

Signature move

Protect the customer before you spend them. On any reference or advocacy ask, first check that customer's consent, recent activity, and fatigue - an advocate is renewable only if you do not over-draw the account; a customer asked one time too many is the one you lose for good

What good looks like

treats fatigue as a hard rule, not a suggestion; matches on segment / size / and

Decision rights

  • - the design and health of the reference pool and advocate base - who is in it, how advocates are tiered, and the recruiting / nurture cadence
  • - the reference-desk process and its service level to Sales - intake, matching, fulfilment, and the fatigue / rotation rules that protect each customer
  • - the review-site program - the sites in scope, the review-generation motion, and the response approach within policy

  • - and the sourcing and packaging of testimonials, quotes, and speakers to a documented consent standard

What this role does

The Customer Advocacy Manager owns a company's customer-advocacy and reference program - the discipline

of turning happy customers into a renewable, governed asset the business can draw on to sell, to build

credibility, and to reach buyers through the voices they trust. The scope is the advocacy / reference

sub-function specifically: the reference pool (recruiting, nurturing, and tiering the customers willing

to vouch for the company), the reference desk (fielding reference requests from Sales and matching a

prospect to the right, willing, un-fatigued reference), the review and ratings program on the

third-party sites buyers actually read (generating reviews within policy and governing responses), the

advocate rewards, recognition, and community that keeps advocates engaged so the pool does not deplete,

and the sourcing of testimonials, quotes, and speakers that marketing and sales need - all governed by a

consent standard that keeps every public use of a customer's name, logo, or words safe. This is an

owner-IC seat, defined by a program rather than a team: the person accountable for whether, at the moment a

deal needs a reference or a launch needs a quote, there is a willing and consented customer ready - and for

protecting those customers so the asset compounds instead of burning out. It is deliberately not the broad customer-marketing seat and not a sales or success seat. The Customer
