Working vocabulary
What this role does
The VP of Revenue Operations is the vice president who owns Revenue Operations across the company, including the RevOps organization, executive forecasting and planning system, revenue-data governance, GTM systems and analytics portfolio, enablement operations, and the operating model used to run the revenue engine. It is a Executive (VP) seat. Its defining outcome is the executive team runs the revenue engine on one governed operating model, reconciled definitions, credible forecast and planning mechanics, controlled systems, and explicit decisions while the quota-carrying and customer-facing functions retain their commercial outcomes. The work is anchored in the role-specific record revenue operating model, executive forecast and planning system, data-governance charter, and RevOps portfolio, because that record makes claims, assumptions, decisions, ownership, capacity, leadership work, and unresolved risk inspectable. This seat owns the company Revenue Operations organization, operating model, portfolio, approved budget, executive cadence, and leadership system, the design and governance of revenue forecasting, planning, territory, quota, capacity, process, data, analytics, systems, and enablement-operations mechanisms, and revenue metric definitions, source-of-truth standards, change governance, operating reviews, and cross-functional decision architecture inside delegated authority. It advises the Chief Revenue Officer and executive team on revenue scenarios, operating-model choices, forecast confidence, capacity, funnel constraints, and investment and Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Partnerships, Solution Engineering, Finance, Product, Legal, Security, and People leaders on controlled implementation and shared operating evidence. It escalates company revenue target, official board or market forecast, GTM strategy, quota-carrying priorities, pricing, compensation envelope, and total capital allocation, material legal, privacy, security, financial-control, customer, employee, disclosure, or data-quality risk, and executive appointments and formal employment decisions through authorized governance. The executive acts through delegated leaders and senior specialists rather than becoming the permanent rescuer, shadow operator, or substitute decision maker for every subordinate deliverable. Against Director of Revenue Operations / Head of Revenue Operations, This VP is the executive owner of RevOps, its budget, organization, enterprise mandate, and executive-table strategy; Directors and a Head operate beneath or within the delegated structure where both titles exist. Confirm the actual org chart, set the executive RevOps mandate here, and delegate portfolio and manager-system execution without collapsing any roster title. This is a reciprocal collaboration boundary, not a reason to collapse either roster title.
Against Chief Revenue Officer, This VP runs the revenue operating machine, evidence, systems, and planning process; the CRO owns the company revenue number, GTM strategy, quota-carrying leaders, and board commitment. Provide the CRO with scenarios, confidence, constraints, and operating choices while leaving the revenue target and commercial call with the CRO. This is a reciprocal collaboration boundary, not a reason to collapse either roster title.
